Georgian tight-head Anton Peikrishvili signs for Cardiff Blues

Cardiff Blues have bolstered their pack with the signing of Georgian tight-head prop Anton Peikrishvili.

The 23-cap international has already arrived in the Welsh capital after signing from Ulster and is available for selection for the remainder of the season.

Peikrishvili has previously enjoyed stints at Agen, Castres, Brive and Bayonne, playing in both the Top 14 and European Champions Cup.

The 29-year-old will provide further strength in depth and competition for Taufa’ao Filise, Scott Andrews and Dillon Lewis. He can also play on the opposite side of the scrum at loose-head.

Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson said: “It was important that we brought in another tight-head and Anton fits the bill.

“Georgia have a tradition of strong packs and as expected he is a strong, scrummaging prop and brings a wealth of senior experience having spent several years in the Top 14, a notoriously attritional league.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Anton out on the pitch and also what he can teach some of our younger props.”

Peikrishvili made his international debut against Portugal in 2008 and has remained an ever present feature in the Lelos squad, playing in last year’s World Cup against New Zealand.

Ulster Rugby has today been boosted by the news that Sean Reidy has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him at Kingspan Stadium until the summer of 2020.
The New Zealand born back row star joined Ulster from Counties Manukau in 2014 and made his debut for the club in November of that year in the 23-6 win over Newport Gwent Dragons.
He agreed a two-year deal with the Province back in February but his impressive form this season has led to a further extension. The versatile 27-year-old has started 8 of Ulster’s 9 games to date this season, operating at openside flanker and number 8 for Les Kiss’ side.
Reidy is Irish-qualified through his grandfather and he made his international debut during Ireland’s summer tour of South Africa back in June.

Commenting on his decision to put pen to paper, Reidy said: “I’m really happy to be sticking around. I’ve enjoyed the past two and a half years a lot and my partner and I really love the place. “I’ve been pleased with the amount of minutes I’ve got under my belt so far this season but I’m going to keep my head down and try to keep developing my game under Les and the rest of the coaches.
“The setup here is really good and I’m looking forward to being part of an exciting journey over the next few years.”

Kiss welcomed the news that Reidy was extending his stay in Belfast:
“It’s brilliant that Sean has committed to us until 2020; it’s another good bit of business by our Operations Director, Bryn Cunningham.
“Sean has worked hard since his arrival at Ulster and his game has developed very well as a result of that. During the summer, I was delighted that his hard work was rewarded with a first international cap.
“His defence and breakdown work has been very impressive in the early stages of the season and that has had a big impact for us. I am really enthusiastic about what Sean can deliver for us over the next few years.”
