I Southern Kings si rinforzano in prima linea con l’arrivo del pilone Schalk van der Merwe, 25 anni, che nel Super Rugby ha già vestito la maglia dei Lions nel 2014 e nel 2015, prima di trasferirsi in Francia al Montpellier. «Ogni squadra necessità di esperienza in prima linea ed è una gran cosa poter contare su di un giocatore con un tale pedigree» ha commentato l’head coach Deon Davids, che ha poi confermato l’arrivo a Port Elizabeth anche di due trequarti ala dagli Sharks: l’ex Junior Springbok Wandile Mjekevu, già ad Eastern Province in prestito all’inizio della stagione, e Neil Maritz.
Van der Merwe, Mjekevu e Maritz sono gli ultimi nomi confermati dai Southern Kings dopo che nelle scorse settimane erano stati annunciati Heiberg (pilone), Irné Herbst (seconda linea), Wandile Putuma (seconda linea), Garrick Mattheus (apertura), Yaw Penxe (ala) e Sintu Manjezi (seconda/terza)
